So I stayed at the Hostal Guarni in Baraona, knowing that I would be stuck here for some days because of the fierce winds.
In the mornings I had a bocadillo with that incredibly tasty ham. In the evenings I had very nice plates. If I had no idea what a name was supposed to be the plates were shown to me before being brought to the person(s) who had actually ordered them. And I had postres (desserts), something I normally don't eat to avoid sugar and extra calories. Once I spyed on the cook and forced him to let me take a picture of him haha. Thanks to you and your wife (and the other customers) for the good service and time, I felt oké in Hostal Guarni.
Once more I was stuck by the weather, especially by the fierce headwinds during the daytimes. I made several recordings before having this one. Time after time I was blown aside while filming.
I was allowed to use the washing- and dryingmachine which I ofcourse did.
Thanks, I really appreciate that !
One of the main problems for a (budget-) traveller always is to have washed clothes dry in time. I don't use cotton anyway for reasons of environment, weight, comfort and dryingtime. But without having a centrifuge even the sports type of clothing is not dry the next morning if there is no ventilation in the room. And there isn't since there is most likely just one window.
And there isn't night-wind here for weeks already. Which also causes the tent to be wet from condensation inside and outside. While during daytimes there is to much wind to cycle ...
Having this nice room available it also was the right moment to evaluate the luggage. The bike is ofcourse still too heavy 🖱️ and I decided to get rid of several materials. I guess I removed about 5 kilos, for a great part by leaving the superlock (safetyclass 15/15) behind that weighs some 3.5 kg. I will have to do with the other chainlock that I can click into the fixed lock at the bicycle.
The views are great once more.
That is, if you can appreciate empty spaces ...
The economical situation is bad here. I suppose that started when the Firestone tire company left Baraona. But I could not find any information about that, it maybe happened already before the raise of the internet. And I forgot to ask the locals about that.
In the bar was always something going on. Then since there is nothing moving in the far surroundings a bar like this is the most important "social media".
This rooster has it's home at the other side of the street and is cripled, for unknown reason. He nevertheless has no fear to enter the street in search for something to eat. If a car or truck arrives he just in time steps aside.
The Friday first seemed to be the first "best day" to cycle on, but that morning it rained again and it still was very windy. So I stayed another night (for which I had to change rooms since they all were booked for the weekend). Then the next morning the weather was oké and I left Barahone.
Little by little I learn that the weatherforecast in Spain is usually more worse then the weather really turns out to be. But with these figures I really don't want to take the guess that I could be lucky on the road. As written before the weather is forcing me into hostals more often then planned. And is keeping me inside to much. But there are hardly any (acceptable) campings anyway in this part of Spain.
I can easily adapt myself to all kind of situations, as long as I can stay at my own place whenever I want (need) to. There is always lots (lots !) of digital work waiting for me and I really like doing that. So my stay at the Hostal Guarni in Baraona was a succes for me. And I hope it (I) was not a problem for anyone haha.
Hold tight and see you in the next storm !
